Each Learn to Swim block runs during the school terms.

Our students are assessed at the end of each term and their skill assessments can be viewed on our Customer Portal. During school holidays, we provide holiday intensive programs. Please login our iClasspro Customer Portal for bookings and our class timetables.

 Infant Aquatics

  • WaterNursery is a sensory-based class designed to introduce infants aged 4 to 6 months to the pool in a fun and nurturing environment, and to teach basic skills that prepare parents and their babies for our WaterBubs program.

    Instructor-led activities include:

    • learning safe ways to hold your baby in the water;

    • safe ways to enter and exit the pool;

    • enhancing an infant’s inborn natural reflexes;

    • teaching basic breath control through demonstration; and

    • educating parents on water safety for infants.

    Conducted with a guardian in the water, Water Nursery is a FREE 20 minute fun and enjoyable experience for you to share with your baby.

  • WaterBubs is a wonderful way for infants aged 6 to 18montts and their carers to discover the enriching world of swimming.

    Instructor-led activities include:

    • learning safe ways to hold your infant in the water;

    • safe ways to enter and exit the pool;

    • teaching basic breath control through demonstration,

    • front and back floats

    • moving through the water;

    • submersions, if the infant is ready; and

    • educating parents on water safety for infants.

    Conducted with a guardian in the water, with up to 8 participants.

  • Water Tots is the final level in our Infant Aquatics, catering to toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years, and it continues the journey of introducing young ones to the joys of swimming. Our approach is centred on creating a fun and nurturing environment while instilling fundamental skills that prepare both parents and their toddlers for the LTS program.

    WaerTots os building on the skills learnt in WaerBubs and offers a delightful and enriching experience for you and your toddler to share together.

Learn to Swim

  • This is the first level of our LTS Groups. Water Awareness is suitable for children aged 3 years and above who have little to no swimming skills and/or not comfortable in the water.

    This level introduces participants to the fundamentals of water safety and to continue to develop water confidence. The core focus is to get the child to be comfortable and relaxed in the water and develop some independence.

    Key components of Water Awareness:

    • Up to 3 students

    • Conducted without a guardian in the water

    • Water familiarisation

    • Assisted front and back floats

    • Assisted paddle and kick using equipment

    • Learning breath control

    • Initiate and develop submersion skills

    • Assisted glides

    Once the child is confident in the water and displaying some independence they then progress to Water Novice.

  • Water Novice continue to introduce participants to the fundamentals of water safety and to continue to develop water confidence. The core focus is to get the child to stay afloat and start achieving short distances of propulsion.

    Participants must be 3 years of age or above, have minimal swimming skills, and reasonably comfortable in the water demonstriting some independence.

    Key conponents of Water Novice:

    • Up to 4 students

    • Conducted out to 4metres

    • Conducted without a guardian in the water

    • Unassisted front and back floats

    • Unassisted paddle and kick action

    • Develop streamlined body position and glides

    • Practice freestyle arm action

    • Demonstrate breath control

    To advance to the Water Learner level, participants must consistently and continuously propel themselves in a horizontal position, covering a distance of 5 meters.

  • Water Learner focuses on introducing participants to freestyle swimming skills and techniques, emphasising proficiency over 5meter lengths. Participants will learn proper techniques for kicking, breathing, the freestyle stroke, and body positioning, ensuring they can effectively navigate the specified distance with correct form and confidence.

    Key components of Water Learner include:

    • Up to 4 students per group

    • Conducted over distances of up to 5 meters

    • 30-minute group lessons

    • Further refinement of freestyle techniques

    • Water safety focus, including instruction on reach or throw rescues and proper use of personal flotation devices (PFDs) with an emphasis on boat safety.

    To progress up to WaterWise, participants must:

    • Confidently stay horizontal displaying big arms, correct kicking legs and breathing for 10 m freestyle swim;

    • Have a good backstroke kick; and

    • Good streamline techniques.

  • In our final level of LTS Groups, participants swim distances of 10 meters, continuing to refine their swimming skills and introducing backstroke techniques. The emphasis remains on mastering correct techniques for kicking, breathing, stroke technique, and key body positioning, ensuring participants can confidently swim unassisted over the specified distance.

    Key conponents of Water Wise:

    • Refiing freestyle techniqus

    • Backtoke techniqus developed

    • Seated Dives progressing to kneeling

    • Water safety components include: exposing the child to deep water, teaching pin drops and safety jumps, Instruction on sculling hands and sculling on the back along with HELP position and treading water.

    To progress to WaterSkills, participants must:

    • Swim 15m freestyle without stopping, with reasonable side breathing technique, correct kicking actions and big arms.

    • Have a good backstroke techniques: body + head position, arms and kick.

    • Can conduct a modified dive staying in streamline and come up stroking.

 Stroke Correction

  • The initial level of our Stroke Correction program, Water Skills aims to enhance stroke proficiency and increase swimming distances. Participants will refine freestyle and backstroke techniques, swimming 15 metre lengths. Furthermore, this level introduces breaststroke techniques while emphasising proper dive form.

    Key components of Water Skills

    • Up to 6 students

    • Aimed towards building water confidence and stroke development over 15m

    • 30 minute group class

    • Further refine and develop freestyle and backstroke

    • Maintain streamline and correct body position

    • Introduce breaststroke kick and glide action

    • Further develop dive techniques including crouch dive

    To advance to the Water Proficient level, participants must demonstrate the following skills:

    • Swim 25 meters freestyle without stopping, utilising good side breathing technique, correct kicking actions, and a proficient arm pull.

    • Exhibit good backstroke technique, including maintaining goo, body + head position, executing a strong catch and pull, and employing correct kicking technique.

    • Perform a kneeling or crouch dive while maintaining streamline position and seamlessly transitioning into stroking upon resurfacing.

    • Execute the correct breaststroke kick action with proficiency and control.

  • Up to 8 students.

    Aimed towards building water confidence and stroke development over 20m.

    Recommended for 5+ years.

    Develop correct kicking action for freestyle and backstroke.

    Refinement of freestyle arm motion with correct bi-lateral breathing.

    Correct backstroke technique.

    Correct breaststroke kick and glide action

    Introduce breaststroke arms and timing with kick.

    Develop porpoise kick motion for butterfly.

    Further development of dive techniques.

  • To prepare swimmers for Foundation Squad by further refiing all four strokes.

Squad Program

Under the L+R Group's WaterSchool Squad Program, we have different squads designed to cater to the varying needs and abilities of our athletes and align with Swimming Australias Swimming Framework.

  • The Foundation Squad is designed for swimmers who have advanced from our Stroke Correction class, Water Squad, or an equivalent level from another learn-to-swim program. Each session typically accommodates up to 16 participants.

    The primary objective of the Foundation Squad is to impart meticulous swimming techniques, cultivate proficiency, agility, and foster a heightened sense of water awareness.

    Tailored for athletes beyond basic swimming levels, the Foundation Squad focuses on refining skills, perfecting strokes, and enhancing technique. Each session, typically lasting 60 minutes, ensures personalised attention within the group’s needs and dynamics.

    Participant Requirements:

    Swimmers joining the Foundation Squad must have successfully completed the Stroke Correction class, Water Squad, or an equivalent level from another learn-to-swim program. They should also be capable of swimming a distance of 50 meters comfortably and consistently, while demonstrating correct technique for both butterfly and breaststroke over 25 meters.

  • Participant Requirements

    Entry into the Talent Squad is reserved for swimmers who have excelled in our Foundation Squad or have been identified as possessing exceptional potential. Prospective participants must demonstrate the ability to swim a distance of 100 meters comfortably and consistently, showcasing advanced technique across all four competitive strokes over 50 meters. Admission to the Talent Squad is based on merit and potential, ensuring that only the most dedicated and talented athletes are selected to join this prestigious program.

  • The Elite Squad represents the pinnacle of our swimming program, catering to swimmers who have excelled in our Talent Squad or show advanced potential.

    This elite program offers a dynamic and challenging environment, where athletes embark on a journey of refinement, optimization, and preparation for competitive swimming at the highest levels. With personalized attention and a relentless pursuit of excellence, each session is meticulously designed to cultivate the abilities of our most promising swimmers, guiding them towards achieving their highest aspirations in the pool.

  • For all squad swimmers, it is mandatory to have their own training gear and bring it to each training session. Swimmers are required to be prepared behind the blocks 5 minutes before the session start time to ensure timely commencement.

    Foundation Gear

    • Goggles

    • Kickboard

    • Flippers

    • Water bottle

    • Swim cap (recommended)

    Talent Gear

    In addition to the foundation gear listed above, Talent Squad swimmers are expected to have the following equipment:

    • Pool buoy

    • Hand paddles

    • Training snorkel

    These gear requirements ensure that swimmers have the necessary tools to maximise their training and performance during squad sessions.
